Discussion:
Does Barry have any children (legitimate or otherwise)?

Hi All,

I was rereading "Sweet Life" last evening and came across the
section where Barry (and Garry) were discussing and laughing about a
paternity suit that a Deborah from Nebraska
filed against Barry. Does anyone think that Barry might have a grown
child whose mother may have been paid off for her silence...at that
time, Barry has very hot as a singer and
I believe that Garry and Barry would do anything that came in the way
of Barry's career
success. Has anyone ever checked out that gal? I assume that Patricia
Butler might have done some homework in that area and either found
nothing or was blocked for some reason.
Yet Barry does not strike me as the type who could just ignore his own
flesh and blood, even for a career.... Yes, most of us do think that
B&G are a couple but Barry was once young and perhaps liked to
experiment...all those gals throwing themselves at him...
Just a thought....
If Barry has no children, I feel that this was a big mistake on his
part as he would have been a good father, especially concerning his
patience. Everyone knows how young children get bored easily and need
to be constantly stimulated; Barry could keep the child very happy with
constant new ideas, etc.

I don't have a clue if he does or he doesn't, but if it ever came out
that he did have a grown son or daughter somewhere, I wouldn't be
surprised at all.

*****************************************************************
It was 1975 when it happened on the same day that Clive told him that
Mandy was going to reach number one and Miles Lourie who was his
manager at the time told him he was broke and Deborah Collins from
Omaha Nebraska had filed a paternity suit against Barry.

Have you ever read whether the case was dismissed, etc. Or possibly
the gal was paid off...but if he was broke, perhaps Clive took care of

More than likely it was dismissed because Barry had never heard of
this woman nor met her and it was probably proved she was a few french
fries short of a happy meal.

Or ... it was settled out of court, and Barry's progeny is quietly
going about his/her business somewhere.

Frankly, if he does have offspring, I hope he had a son. It would be
nice to think there's a young man out there who will be able to pass
along the rest of Barry's legacy. :-)

Okay this is my last post on this...as my mental health is being
compromised here but...

Daughter's can pass on GENETIC material just as well as son's can...and
we can pass down names as well...so Barry's "legacy" would be just fine
in either's hands...

I'm not being sexist.

I'm being selfish.

The thought of a 30-year-old guy (who might resemble Barry and possibly
have inherited some of his talent) walking the earth is just a bigger
turn-on for me than the thought of a daughter doing the same thing .

Brenda,

After all this time, don't you think that he would at least acknowledge
his own flesh and blood. After Barry's own biological father not
associating with him for years, I would think that Barry would not want
the same thing to happen to his own child. He doesn't have to give
details, places, etc., just an acknowledgement. Like you, Brenda, I'd
rather a tall, handsome, blue-eyed son with a romantic voice roaming
the earth...

There's a Deb Collins who is/was a newscaster in Lincoln, who is just

Just my own opinion, but I kinda think Barry likes to keep an air of
mystery about himself. Rather than completely close off any and all
discussion about his private life, he seems to "tease" us with just
enough info to keep us interested (and guessing).

And I agree with you - Barry has a terrific writing style - very
conversational and easy to read. I wish he could somehow find the time
to write more books.

To answer your question, sparky...

..Not unless BM really is chatting online incognito (don't bet the farm
on it) as ***@hotmail.com, FoxAtThePiano, Foxy061746, or whatever
the new screen name is now, ever since I busted some sick fans over a year
ago who were pretending to be him.

Not only that, but they seemed to believe (or else just enjoyed playing
mind games on the naive and trusting fans) that BM had secretly married a
gal from the UK named Vivienne (after paying off her abusive husband's
silence of course), adopted her two teenage boys, and had an infant son
named Joseph with her in Oct. 2004 (after the Detroit ONL concert).

LOL...talk about your "french fries short of a happy meal!" Ya gotta
admire their creativity, though. I wonder what story they're going with
now, and who else is getting played?

It's really kinda funny if it weren't so sad; I would think that if BM had
finally found love and happiness with a wife and child, he wouldn't be able
to keep such wonderful news a secret (like that freak Cruise of TomKat fame
on Oprah's couch); no, like any normal "regular" guy like BM claims to be,
he'd want to take her out and show her off. Unless maybe she's half his
age and twice his size...you know how unforgiving Hollywood is about
plus-size women. A "nice guy" like BM would probably tell her that he's
keeping her secret in order to protect her privacy.

Thanks sparky for giving me an opening to expose these frauds, in case any
other lurkers here had been hurt similarly by these seriously disturbed
individuals in need of professional help and, well, a real life. And that
goes also for BM's allegedly AIDS-ridden friend/daughter Sheila.

Anyone who thinks that BM, or even his "people" on paid salary, has time
or desire for anything but his own career (or solitude), which includes
chatting online, is either fooling themselves or being taken for a royal
ride. BM decided a long time ago that fame and money were more important
to him than having a family, or making and directing his music from the
background, in anonymity. But that's his choice and not my concern. My
job is to make my own choices for my own life.

God, Allah, Jehovah, Karma, or whomever will judge the guilty such as
those sick fans though, and they won't be able to hide or justify
themselves without making things right first. That's good enough for me.

Peace out everyone.

Well, I don't consider someone pretending to be someone else, and then

Guess it was also a joke that someone named "Margaret" privately emailed
to say that Vivienne is dead? Plus, she only mentioned Vivienne's two

Hi Deb...

It's nothing. Literally. Ignore them. Just an interaction with some
sick fans who have been lying to me about everything, including pretending
to be Barry Manilow chatting online, ever since the day I met them three
years ago.

They are to be pitied. But I've released them to the Lord's hands and am
praying for them. When they grow up, they'll start taking responsibility
for their actions, not to mention telling the truth.

Don't worry about me. They did me a favor by tossing me from their group
a year ago, rather than show me any kindness or compassion when I entered
medical treatment for depression. The fact that I didn't fit in with
liars and thieves just let me know that I'm on the right track, and
enabled me to make a better class of friends.

Anyway, part of my healing was to warn other lurkers here who may have
been hurt by these middle aged, junior high school, chain-smoking drunks
(yes, they showed up drunk the first time I met them in person; way to
make an impression). Hence, my post of Friday night.

Forget about them Deb. Enjoy your music without them.

Oh, is that what they told you? Nice of you to get both sides of the

Just because a guy is gay doesn’t mean he’s never had sex with a woman. People do experiment.

I mean, Garry is gay and he’s been with a woman...and his daughter is living proof that it happened.

So why couldn’t Barry have done the same?

I don’t get why there’s even a debate.

Brenda, Can't help you on the Lorna Luft bit, but I do believe I recall Barry saying something about having helped raise Garry's daugther, Kirsten (sp?)

As for Jim, the whole having been with the woman thing, he was young and it was at a time where being gay wasn't accepted. It's not hard to believe at all that he was married for a short period of time. He's living his truth now and has been pretty public about it. Don't get so angry!

Also ... Somebody help me out ... didn’t Lorna Luft write about having had sex with Barry, saying he was “distracted”?

Hi Kristen,

I love the way you stated that: he's living his truth now.
