Interesting question, Irene. I am not sure. It is possible that it will not sell out, particularly with two shows.

I will say, however, the "residency" shows Barry played at the Forum before his most recent Las Vegas gig did very well. (In fact, I think they were sellouts, or pretty close). And that venue, which is not far from Hollywood Bowl, seats about the same as the Bowl.

As Marvin said, the other draw is the LA philharmonic, which I am sure has a loyal base. The other thing is, I think this is part of a series at the Hollywood Bowl and "members" of the venue, or season ticket holders, get this as part of their package. If that's true (someone correct me if not), then many seats have already been sold to the members. He may only have 1/2 of the venue to fill. I am guessing that's why this is a safe bet with the promoter.

I thought this was the case re the season ticket owners. However, do they always turn up to every concert? Are they allowed to sell rheir tickets if they don't want to go? There is a similar system at the Royal Albert Hall but the box holders there can ask the venue to sell their tickets on.

I suspect some of the concert goes might sell their tickets, but here's what the website says about their ticket policy.

Tickets to Hollywood Bowl events range from $1 to hundreds of dollars, depending on the event. There are quite a few ways to get tickets to the bowl. If you plan on attending more than one performance in any given season, consider purchasing a subscription package (offered for 3-10 concerts per year). Subscribers get first choice of additional programs, additional discounts and the ability to exchange tickets for different events. After subscriptions are sold, guests can purchase five or more concerts to receive an additional concert for free.

Single tickets are also available for individual shows. Patrons can purchase tickets in person at the Box Office, online at the Hollywood Bowl website, through Ticketmaster and their outlets, or by phone. Group tickets are also available. Although not official representatives of Hollywood Bowl tickets, guests can often find tickets on official ticket resale websites like StubHub, although there may be a significant markup for some events. Be wary of purchasing tickets on Craigslist, Ebay, or other non-official ticket sites, as many fraudulent tickets are often sold.

Seniors can take advantage of $10 Senior Rush Tickets available on select Tuesday and Thursday concerts. With photo ID, seniors may fill empty seats for just $10 on these select days; call (323), 850-2000 for more information.
~~~~~~
If you're a senior, and in LA on the days that Barry is playing, see if you can snag a $10 ticket!
It is the promoter of the concerts, not Barry, that is taking the financial risk of booking him for two concerts with the LA Philharmonic. Although I don't live in LA and have no idea whether will sell out in LA, it sounds like the promoters think that Barry is a big draw, or he would have been booked for one concert rather than two concerts. The other draw in the concert is the LA Philharmonic and I am sure the LA Philharmonic would be a big draw in LA, so I would say the odds are high that both concerts could be sell outs. Thanks, Marvin
I wonder if Barry's music will be orchestrated. I mentioned earlier that I'd like to hear his music orchestrated in a post last year. If it's true then this seems to indicate that he probably approached the LA Philharmonic with this in mind. People in this group have been wanting to hear Barry do something different so I consider this to be that one opportunity. I think if written properly -adding more subtle nuisances that orchestration calls for - this would be truly new and a rare and different opportunity.
Imagine Barry singing Even Now. The song lends itself very well with orchestration. For one, the song evokes many visual images - ones that are somewhat larger than life. For me, I imagine a man standing on a balcony gazing across the landscape beneath the stars wondering about his long lost love. The song never says the word, but many of the words rhyme with the word star. The song is very atmospheric. I found a Youtube video with this song and the creator chose to put a moving starry background to the music. He sings in the song, "When I come shining through" evokes images in my mind, of man in shining armor - but also reinforces the star images.
This may sound unusual, but I think the song "I can't smile without you" should be orchestrated. Barry hasn't played this song straight in his concerts, using this as an opportunity for a Candid Camera moment, but maybe he could try this - play it straight. This song would be a challenge to orchestrate and would be an interesting composition. It would take a genius to make it work with orchestration.
I just gave my ten cents worth - just a thought.
Just another thought, If I had something to tell Barry, it would be this: Barry this is your moment. Make it special.
