Tidings of comfort (even if joy is a stretch)?

Good Afternoon,

I know a lot of folks have gone through/are going through a lot of "stuff" and I was wondering if you have a comfort song that helps you cope?

My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer three months ago (she hasn't smoked in over 40 years) and I'm an only child. With the exception of one aunt there is no family anywhere nearby. And the university where I work is going through some very choppy waters. My worry lines have become worry craters.

Not too long ago in my desperate search for cute puppy, baby goat and lion cub videos, I stumbled on Barry singing at the Liberty Weekend celebration. I'm not sure why, but it has become my bedtime story. I can't tell you how many times now it has helped me fall asleep (and sleep has been in short supply). Barry sings America the Beautiful and One Voice. The music is beautiful, the setting is awe-inspiring and there is just something about it that provides comfort and a little peace.

Does anyone else have a go to song when things aren't going so great?

So sorry to hear about your Mom, and the troubles on Campus.

One of my favorite comfort songs is "If I can Dream" (Barry or Elvis).

Runners up: Amazing Grace and Let it Be.

If I want to be cheered up, Can't Stop This Feeling by Justin Timberlake always brings a smile.

Angela, I am sorry to hear about your mother. My comfort songs from Barry is "Please Don't Be Scared" and "Keep Each Other Warm" from his purple album. Oddly enough, even though Barry did not compose any of the songs from the purple album, it is one of the albums that I thought that featured Barry singing at his best. Regards, Marvin

Angela,

I am so sorry you’re going through all this, first of all. Please take good care of yourself.

As for your question, no, I don’t have a single Manilow song that I turn to when I’m troubled, exactly.

But I do turn to a moment in time. I have been known to watch my “Can’t Smile” video when I need to be reminded that the universe loved me once and will again. :-)

Love you -

Dear CA Sharon, Scooter, DC Sharon, Marvin, Brenda and Annie, Thank you all so much for you kind words and thoughts and prayers. This group is really an excellent escape hatch when things get a little too rough in the real world. You let me be Alice and jump though the looking glass (computer screen) for a little while.

Thank you again.

Angela,
Very sorry to read about your Mom. Sending you big hugs and positive thoughts. My Dad also has inoperable lung cancer and COPD. He tolerated his chemo for.a long time until that stopped working and he is having success with opdivo — though the side effect of that is shortness of breath and with COPD and limited lung capacity we aren’t sure how long he will stay with that. Keeping you and your Mom in my prayers.

Hi Jackie,

I'll keep you and your dad in my prayers too. They have Mom on Keystruda which is working wonders. They don't warn you about this stuff when you're blissfully young and ignorant.

Angela
