I suspected - as he was not part of the video tributes this week -- and you know he'd say something :-)

He probably had to get right back on a plane. They/Hoda said he flew in specially from doing his Las Vegas residency show at the Westgate. He probably needed to get back for soundcheck or rehearsal, & definitely for the show tonight (please nobody tell me there’s no show tonight).

I forgot to mention, the whole show will be rebroadcast on NBC at a little after 2AM Eastern/1AM Central, late tonight/early tomorrow morning, after Last Call with Carson Daly. If you’re gonna set something to record it, for the whole show, I’d start at 2AM Eastern (or a little before) & let it run until at least 3:15AM Eastern (you should be able to delete the unnecessary parts after he’s on & get your recording space back). Barry was practically the last thing on, except for a taped tribute by Kathie Lee’s kids (her son & his girlfriend were there in the live audience too; they said her daughter was working on something with Roma Downey I didn’t get the name or details of, so she couldn’t be there in person) & Kathie Lee’s final words to everybody watching/working with her.

There's no show tonight. Sorry, I had to do it. But really, there's not.

That’s OK. Somehow I figured there probably wasn’t.

I am glad that Barry surprised Kathie Lee and learned from the show that he helped Kathie with her songwriting. Most of the time that Barry (although not all the time) performed on the Today show over the years was on the Kathy Lee/Hoda segments of the show, so she helped Barry gain publicity for his then new CDs and shows on tour and in Las Vegas.
My favourite moments watching Barry with Kathie Lee was more when KL teamed with Regis Philbin over the decades and I especially remember the show when Barry was on close to the full hour, singing so many of his songs with not only Kathie Lee singing but Regis singing Barry's songs as well.
Kathie Lee (and Regis) showed so much praise for Barry that seemed so more more personal compared to most of Barry's TV talk show appearances that were sincere, so I was not surprised that Barry wanted to be with Kathie Lee on her last day of the show. Marvin

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the new album. He said it's out in June, but he also called it Night Songs. Wonder what that means? Slip of the tongue?

My opinion only... I could live without a Night Songs 2.
At least it's not another Nightmare Singalong.

Barry is doing the music he enjoys.... sales would be a nice surprise. But not the most important priority.

I'd like another Night Songs. I was familiar with a couple of the songs on the first one, but not all of them.

I saw an interview he did in the past couple of years in which he talked about liking Clap Tone (who I'd never heard of, but now really like). I think it would be cool if he'd experiment. He likes that genre, why not make his own?

Maybe I am wrong Angela, but I get the feeling that Barry wants to complete this CD as quickly as possible and perhaps one of the reasons he wants to do another Night Songs CD is that Barry sings alone with his piano on his Night Songs CD, singing more well known Great American Songbook standards from the 1940s (the era Barry seems to love the most). Barry neither has to make new arrangements or hire a lot of musicians on the songs, so it saves a lot of time to complete the CD.
While I am aware that many fans prefer Barry to compose original arrangements or original songs and being accompanied by his band, at least in the format of Barry alone playing the piano, his voice is highlighted and the result is a song that captures your attention more because you hear the lyrics better with just Barry's voice and piano.
The Night Songs CD sounds like Barry being "unplugged", much like he did in his CD of The Greatest Songs of the 70s in which he sang some of his hit songs alone on the piano and that approach really highlighted the lyrics for me. So, it looks likely that the new Night Sounds will be suited for those that like Barry "unplugged". Marvin

Marvin...

Your point about an album being "just Barry and his piano" is well-taken, and yes I *do* like that kind of album. I guess I just wasn't terribly enthused about the song selection for "Night Songs." But other people don't necessarily share that same view. Actually, the acoustic section of GS-70's was one of the best parts. :-)
There's one "just Barry and the piano" song that I wish would show up on a CD sometime... "I'm Goin' Solo" from (I think) the Summer of '78 special on VH1. Years ago, I was able to rip the audio to CD, but an official copy would be nice.
However... for ME... if Barry's going to do a "sequel" to any of his albums, first choice would be a return to Paradise Cafe.

I think people are reading way more into this than you need to.

My hunch (FWIW) is he doesn't know the name of the new album (if it's even been chosen yet) and he was caught off guard with the question as his being on the Today Show with KLG wasn't supposed to be about him, but about her.

He probably just said the first thing that popped into his head and it was an easy title to remember. I suspect at least 90% of the audience watching would have no idea he already released a CD with that title -- only the fans that hang on his every syllable would.

People seem to be talking about the new album, at least a little, on social media like Facebook.
