And the whining and bitching about "Barry didn't get honored" starts in 3... 2...

No whining from me. I have come to expect it. I actually feel badly for the KCH. Clearly, they do not know what they are missing.

Although I like to see Barry getting honored too For the KCH, especially given his age at 76, I do not want to take the low road that the honorees of the KCH this year are not deserving, given all the many accomplishments of Michael Tilson Thomas, Linda Ronstadt and the creators of Sesame Street.
I respect those who were accepted for 2019, and just have to realize that there are a lot of talented people that could never get the KCH Honors because there is just too much competition. Barry has always said that he never performs just for the awards and I believe him, so he may not feel that bad that he was passed over for the 2019 KCH Honors. Thanks, Marvin

I’m actually OK with Barry not being selected again this year. As much as I want him to be selected, I wouldn’t want it to be seen as being tied to the current Administration, even though the President & First Lady aren’t involved in choosing the Honorees, & the current First Couple (at least he not being a lover of the arts) hasn’t participated in any of the Honors ceremonies since being inaugurated.

I’d prefer a less antagonistic Administration than the current 1, which is especially antagonistic to those who aren’t in the same “mold” as the President: rich WASPs in the Top 1% of the financial world/population, & a friendlier Administration to the LGBTQ Community, be in office when the selection committee finally decides to honor Barry this way.

Interesting bit of trivia (at least I think it’s correct): David Rubenstein, Chairman of the Kennedy Center (who was quoted at least once in the linked article) also is the financial backer of the Panda House, where Tian Tian & Mei Xiang, the pair of breeding pandas imported years ago from China, & Bei Bei, their third, & (so far) youngest, cub overall, & second male cub, live at Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, DC.

Wasington benefits from Mr. Rubenstein's philanthropy .. that's for sure.

We lose Bei Bei this year as he turns 4.

Unless they announce Mei Xiang’s pregnant sometime soon (I think they’re still waiting on definitive, or as definitive as they can get with a female, breeding-eligible, panda, pregnancy test results from the last artificial insemination performed awhile back), I can’t bear (no pun intended) the thought of Bei Bei having to be returned to China, presumably within the next year or so. Maybe we’ll get lucky & they’ll let him stay longer, like they did with Bei’s big brother Tai Shan, who didn’t leave until he was 5. I know they agreed to send Bei, & any siblings, to China by the time they were 3 or 4, but I don’t have to like it.
