I would guess that Barry and the other artists had greater incentive to sell their song catalogues because the artists can't perform live during the pandemic to large crowds and selling their catalogues provides each of them a very comfortable income for the rest of their lives. Given that each of the artists are either seniors or close to being seniors, and the live music concert industry may undergo changes that may prevent them from earning large fees for performing, selling their music rights make a lot of sense.
