Just one more furloughed government worker down on her luck!

My apologies to the Trump supporters, but this shutdown is a miserable pain in the ass.

I am so sorry, Brenda, and embarrassed that Humpty Trumpty (as he has now been dubbed) is so obsessed with a wall that will do absolutely no good at all. After watching all the videos of Border Wars and Homeland Security on You Tube, a wall does nothing as they are digging UNDER the wall and making underground tunnels to traffic drugs and people into this country. Border Patrol finds these tunnels and fills them with concrete and these Cartels just build new ones. They just caught 376 Guatemalans outside of Yuma, AZ. They got in by digging under the wall there. It was on the national news a couple of days ago. And they won't be able to build a wall where Indian land goes from here into Mexico because the Indian Nation won't approve it so that area will remain wide open. Humpty Trumpty isn't telling everyone the whole story. He's obsessed with this damn wall at any cost and he's hurting people because he is a spoiled rich brat who is used to getting his way and doesn't care who he hurts to get what he wants. He says most people are backing him on this? That's not true and all the people who have been forced to go back to work without pay? I will be very surprised if he gets elected to a second term because he now has the lowest approval rating of any President who has been in office according to what was reported on the national news. He's playing with his citizens lives. I DO agree with the Democrats in the area of wanting to open the government back up so people can get back to work and continue discussions on what to do to secure our borders. That seems the most logical thing to do.

What most people in the SW, including the ranchers, would like to see is higher wages for Border Patrol agents that would entice others to apply so we have more agents on the border who have smaller areas to patrol. Agents and ranchers are getting killed! They say what good is the military down there if they can't apprehend these coyotes and the people they are trafficking. I agree.

Before anyone tries to come back at me, PLEASE watch all these videos that are available and THEN come back to have an intelligent discussion.

I'll pray for you. Brenda, and all the others who's lives have been greatly affected by this fiasco. JW

Thank you ... prayers are always welcome!

We all need to pray for this country. I believe it was Lincoln who said a house divided cannot stand. Every day it seems our house is splitting straight down the middle, and now even our foundation is cracking.

I also pray for the immigrants, especially from Central America. I have looked into their frightened, helpless eyes and know they never would have come here had their been any other reasonable alternative (like staying home, where gang violence has made it impossible for many to live.)

I feel like our country’s leaders are so entrenched in immigration policy disputes that they’ve lost sight of these desperate people, who they really are and what they really need. We shouldn’t be obsessed with barriers and walls. We need to figure out how to make their homelands safer, so they’d rather not have to come here at all.

In the end, all humans just want to be at home.

I don’t blame them one bit for trying to get here. If I was a Guatemalan with a child, fleeing from death, I’d probably do no different. The legal path to citizenship is long and arduous here in the U.S., and some of these poor souls are running out of time.

I am all for someone wanting a better life but we have laws that have to be followed so they have to go through the process of being documented, just like our ancestors did so we can see if any of them are criminals or not. Most of them are probably good people but we have to keep track of them and be sure. There have been some trying to come here with kids that are not even theirs. And these kids who have been separated from their parents at the border should be sent to the consulate of their country and let them find their parents. Just more of our tax dollars being spent. Personally, they should never have been separated in the first place. That way they could have all been returned to their country together. It's sad but the fact is, IF they don't come here with the proper visas and documents, they just can't be here.

The one thing I have trouble with is: IF they can afford to pay these coyotes thousands of dollars to sneak them across the border, WHY don't they use that money to live on in their own country? I totally agree the violence is a major factor for them but maybe it's time for us to take action to finally get rid of all the groups that are causing the problems. The presidents of all these countries better watch out or they will have no citizens left to govern. And then what?

One of the major issues is these coyotes paint such a rosy picture of America to get these people to pay and these people believe them. It's a huge business for these scumbags and these coyotes get paid by the head. Once they are left alone out in our deserts, they find out quickly that they were lied to. Why should they be allowed to just come here no questions asked? We could never do that in other countries. We would most likely be detained and even jailed, maybe even killed.

So what's the answer? Well....maybe they could go to Brazil or one of the other countries in South America where they aren't in such turmoil? These Cartels are taking over everything and need to be stopped but the Mexican government isn't willing to step up and do something to help because they are afraid of being killed - beheaded. The Mexican police down at the border have strict orders NOT to stop the people from trying to come here so we get no help from there.

I agree with everything you said.

That’s why it’s such a hard problem to tackle. There is no one magic solution. Barriers might help in certain areas, but so much more money needs to go toward personnel and technology.

It’s a tough enough battle without our fighting each other.

.
All the more reason why Trump has to open up the government, put people back to work before they lose everything and get up off his butt and be willing to discuss alternatives. He's obsessed with this wall but hasn't done his homework at all. He went to Texas instead of AZ which has the highest number of illegals crossing at any of the borders. What good is a wall going to do when they are already thumbing their noses at us and find all ways to avoid it? And guess who will end up paying for it....you and me and everyone else by taxes going up! He may be the leader of the free world and our President but I feel he's being a first class jackass over all of this and a lot of the people who trusted him and voted for him are now getting slapped in the face. How disgusting!

The problem I find in the "These people have to come here legally" argument isn't so much the argument itself... as the fact that Border Patrol people are (or at least have been) physically going out and blocking people from coming across and entering at the legal points of entry. They're then forced to enter any place they can find and as soon as they do... "AHA!!! ILLEGAL ALIEN!!!"

Aside from that... I too feel for Brenda. I have neighbors who are impacted as well... and considering I live in the DC suburbs, I'm surprised I don't know more. I'm on the board of my HOA and we've already had two families ask what we can do about their monthly HOA fees because of the shutdown. Our monthly meeting is Wednesday night; I'm going to propose letting it slide as long as the shutdown goes on.

I'm fed up with the Man-baby in the White House throwing his little Trumper tantrum just because he didn't get his Lego build-a-wall set for Christmas... and McConnell isn't helping. I can't remember which news show I saw this on, but I think the best response I've heard so far is this... "Trump has decided to hold this country hostage until he gets his wall. If he bothered to look at history, he would know that we don't negotiate with terrorists."

D...these agents are not going out at the border and blocking people. If you watch these videos, they are catching people at the borders with fake ID's, the wrong passports, drugs taped on their bodies, false documents they buy from the people on the Mexican side of the border, people who have warrants out for them, criminals, etc. These agents have the right to pick people out for random inspections whenever they want to - anyone that might look suspicious to them. And they are legally within their rights. The wonderful dogs catch many of them right at the border crossings. PLEASE watch some of these videos when you have time and you will get a much better picture of what is actually happening and how these agents work their butts off to make this country safer for us. You have been led to be under the wrong impression. All of these things I said above are illegal and criminal acts. If they weren't, these people would not be prosecuted or barred from coming back to the border for 5 years.

Any way you look at it, Humpty Trumpty is losing friends fast and don't even get me started on McConnell. That's a whole different story. We need to vote new people in during the next election and get rid of all these children!

It just amazes me how so many people (not you) just shoot off their mouths when they haven't done the homework and are clueless.

It is tragic that so many of us have to suffer while the government shutdown continues with no end in sight. I do not want to get into a discussion of whether Trump, Democrats or Republicans are to blame. Nobody wants to compromise and neither political party really cares about the economic hardships of the government workers, so I blame all the politicians for not coming together.
I think the shutdown will only end when enough people do not show up for work at the airports to screen passengers that the airlines will eventually have a problem of selling airline tickets. Let us hope the shutdown ends soon. Marvin

I totally agree, Marvin and that's why it's so important that everyone in DC work together FOR the people. They wouldn't be in DC if it wasn't for us putting them there. The "leader" of our country is supposed to LEAD, correct? Not turn worlds upside down for his people because he can't get his way. What a mess!

I was going to go into a long tirade, and I probably still could, but I'll keep it short:
Your assertions are total B.S.
People are being blocked from accessing LEGAL points of entry. Not "fake ID," or "wrong passport," or whatever else you may want to believe to make you feel better.

Crossing the border at points other than the legal points of entry is illegal, yes. But those coming here also have the legal right to cross into the country and request asylum... and they are being denied that right by the Border Patrol.

But, unfortunately, being processed takes time and they have to wait since there are so many of them at one time. If we don't like what's happening, it's up to us to contact our political officials and see if we can get some of these laws changed. It may not do any good but at least we can say we tried. The only reason I bring this up is because Crystal made a comment about their skin not being white. What's the answer? We need to get people back to work so these people can get processed faster. That just seems like common sense to me.

What happened that part of my post is repeated twice? Is that a Google glitch? Interesting.

D...all the ones I'm talking about that try to cross the border crossings with illegal documents are NOT the ones applying for asylum. I should have made that clear. I totally agree those that ARE applying for asylum have every right to do so and go through the proper channels to be documented so they can be in this country and live in peace. But, unfortunately, being processed takes time and they have to wait since there are so many of them at one time. If we don't like what's happening, it's up to us to contact our political officials and see if we can get some of these laws changed. It may not do any good but at least we can say we tried. BTW....ALL these people who are coming now, the Mexicans and Guatemalans ARE considered WHITE by our national Census Bureau. That's a fact. The only reason I bring this up is because Crystal made a comment about their skin not being white. What's the answer? We need to get people back to work so these people can get processed faster. That just seems like common sense to me. The Border Patrol is just following orders from the higher ups and the way our laws are written. Try not to blame them - they are just trying to do their jobs.
D...I should have said Crystal was referring to another country's official when HE said these people are not white. The way I wrote it infers Crystal was saying that when she didn't. Geez...I need to go back to school to learn how to write better English!

According to international law and the UN which we're still a part of, people have the right to come to our border and apply for asylum for legitimate reasons. Brazil is too far away for these impoverished refugees to reach, and the country just stupidly elected their own version of IL Douche. Mexico isn't stopping these caravans of refugees but they aren't doing anything to help them either other than offering certain numbers of them temporary residency if they meet certain criteria. IL Douche is racist enough on his own, but now that he has Goebbels 2.0 aka Stephen Miller who gets his rocks off looking at pictures of those children who have been taken from their parents setting policy, he's even worse. If these people had white skin he wouldn't be doing this.

I've never disputed that, Crystal. I apologize for not making myself clear. I'm talking about all the ones who are NOT seeking asylum and think they can fool us. I watch every news channel I can and the Justice Network too. These videos don't lie but the news media does tend to sensationalize quite a bit to get higher ratings to keep them on top. You can disagree with me if you want to but I feel it's gotten to the point with the media I don't know if I can trust everything they report. And BTW, when I mentioned Brazil it was just a thought, nothing meant to be definite.

Can we really expect Mexico to do anything when they never have before? They are afraid for their lives because the Cartels are ruling that country now, not the government. And the Brazil top dog doesn't consider these people to be white?? He sure has a lot to learn and is just showing his ignorance.

Just one more furloughed government worker down on her luck!

JW
IL Douche is terrified of Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and his racist base but what he's too stupid to realize is that they aren't going to be enough to save his fat ass next year. Every democrat who's running against him wins in a recent poll, and 57% who were surveyed said they will vote against him next year! That wall will do nothing as you said bookworm, and the Guatamalans who entered illegally turned themselves into border patrol to apply for asylum. They aren't coming here to rape, loot, and pillage or smuggle drugs; they're trying to escape horrendous conditions in their country that our government is partially responsible for. Most people who are here illegally come in on a legitimate visa and then don't go home when it expires. I really hope this shut down ends soon for Brenda and Sharon's sake, and maybe those who voted for Trump and have been effected will wake up and realize that voting republican is only hurting themselves.

I take it you are another one who is not fond of Humpty Trumpty? lol Join the majority, my dear! I totally agree these people fleeing their country are probably decent people who just want to LIVE and be able to breathe without fear. According to statistics (whose I don't know!) that have been reported, the undocumented ones here far outweigh the ones who have overstayed their visas. I remember one Chinese lady came here on a visa and overstayed 3 years. She said she thought the visa was good for life. Whether she really didn't understand because of the language barrier or she was just playing dumb never came out but she was deported back to China. I would like to think when these people apply for visas, they are told exactly what they need to be told and it is explained so they understand. Who knows? I have NEVER heard of a visa being issued for life, have you?

Good news for you, Brenda? 'Trump announces deal for government to reopen for three weeks, ending longest shutdown; no money for his border wall'. Let's hope all of you get your back pay during that time. I guess everyone is now wondering what will happen after 3 weeks. Fingers crossed for all of you.
