Post by Brenda MThank you ... prayers are always welcome!
We all need to pray for this country. I believe it was Lincoln who said a house divided cannot stand. Every day it seems our house is splitting straight down the middle, and now even our foundation is cracking.
I also pray for the immigrants, especially from Central America. I have looked into their frightened, helpless eyes and know they never would have come here had their been any other reasonable alternative (like staying home, where gang violence has made it impossible for many to live.)
I feel like our country’s leaders are so entrenched in immigration policy disputes that they’ve lost sight of these desperate people, who they really are and what they really need. We shouldn’t be obsessed with barriers and walls. We need to figure out how to make their homelands safer, so they’d rather not have to come here at all.
In the end, all humans just want to be at home.
I don’t blame them one bit for trying to get here. If I was a Guatemalan with a child, fleeing from death, I’d probably do no different. The legal path to citizenship is long and arduous here in the U.S., and some of these poor souls are running out of time.
I am all for someone wanting a better life but we have laws that have to be followed so they have to go through the process of being documented, just like our ancestors did so we can see if any of them are criminals or not. Most of them are probably good people but we have to keep track of them and be sure. There have been some trying to come here with kids that are not even theirs. And these kids who have been separated from their parents at the border should be sent to the consulate of their country and let them find their parents. Just more of our tax dollars being spent. Personally, they should never have been separated in the first place. That way they could have all been returned to their country together. It's sad but the fact is, IF they don't come here with the proper visas and documents, they just can't be here.
The one thing I have trouble with is: IF they can afford to pay these coyotes thousands of dollars to sneak them across the border, WHY don't they use that money to live on in their own country? I totally agree the violence is a major factor for them but maybe it's time for us to take action to finally get rid of all the groups that are causing the problems. The presidents of all these countries better watch out or they will have no citizens left to govern. And then what?
One of the major issues is these coyotes paint such a rosy picture of America to get these people to pay and these people believe them. It's a huge business for these scumbags and these coyotes get paid by the head. Once they are left alone out in our deserts, they find out quickly that they were lied to. Why should they be allowed to just come here no questions asked? We could never do that in other countries. We would most likely be detained and even jailed, maybe even killed.
So what's the answer? Well....maybe they could go to Brazil or one of the other countries in South America where they aren't in such turmoil? These Cartels are taking over everything and need to be stopped but the Mexican government isn't willing to step up and do something to help because they are afraid of being killed - beheaded. The Mexican police down at the border have strict orders NOT to stop the people from trying to come here so we get no help from there.
