Lovely to see Barry again in our capital. His segment of the show took about an hour. I had to laugh at some of the ancient "ad libs" but that's our Barry. Looked good and seemed to be enjoying himself. Thankfully the weather was also brilliant for an outdoor show, complete with full moon. He said the crowd was about 40,000 people.

Wish I had been there, Dee! What was the set list?

I wasn't there, just watching it on TV. Didn't make a note of the songs but most of the usual. I'm sure it's up on Youtube by now. He did a quick advert about his BBC Radio 2 show "They write the songs" and said a new series is starting tonight. Also mentioned coming over here next summer for about 6 dates.

Thanks Carmen. A couple of songs on the list I've not heard Mr M perform live. Again, wish I had been there.

Before he sang Sweet Heaven, he said "I hope I can remember the words". He mentioned the BBC orchestra and how his own band was almost in quarantine, squashed into a corner.

Hi Dee,

Mr M said the same thing about remembering the words to IWTS when he was on GMA.
Which surprised me, although it may have been meant as a throwaway quip, because he sings IWTS at every damn show. Every.Damn.Show. LOLOL!

Whereas "Sweet Heaven" is not included in the regular rotation, so the lyrics may not be committed to memory in the same way.

Also, there is one section where he changes the words (I think from the Scores album but I'm rusty so don't shoot me if I'm wrong!). He started singing "So happy to be hooked again, my Saturdays are booked again" then went back to the original lines.

Hi Dee,

Well, I don't think that's a memory lapse so much as, yet again, reminding us that he is married to THE HANDSOMEST ONE.

Yeah, thanks for the reminder, Mr M. Because for one nanosecond we may have forgotten about the hunka hunka burning hubs...…………..

I was there and it was indeed brilliant. Barry was ‘on fire’ and went down really well with the crowd.
The orchestra were right across the stage and Barry’s band were on the right behind a sort of Perspex wall. They sounded fab and from their tweets, they really enjoyed it too.
Michael Ball (a very popular and talented musical theatre performer/singer/radio presenter) was really bigging him up and mentioned how good Barry was in all the interviews I heard him do afterwards so it’s nice he was appreciated!
Yes, the ‘ad-libs’ were probably the same as when he last did the Proms in the Park 10 years ago but most there wouldn’t know! It was also VERY nice to have a plain and beautiful version of Mandy.
