Who Needs to Dream Question

I was reading Suzan's review of Midnight with Manilow and noticed that he said "Who Needs to Dream" is his most requested song, but that he rarely performs it. I love many, many of his songs, but that one holds a near and dear place in my heart. It makes me happy every single time I hear it and apparently I'm not the only one. Does anyone know why he doesn't perform it more often?

I wonder if it's because the civilian crowds aren't that
familiar with it, and seem to mostly only want the hits?

Scooter...

I was thinking the same thing.
Unless it's another one like "Heaven" which supposedly he absolutely loathes...

Oh! I loved that song (Heaven) as well as almost every other song on Here Comes The Night LP except for "I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter"

That one, to me, was cringe-worthy. Others didn't like Memory or Stay (you know who you are), so there were a few not-fan-favorites on that LP.

Sharon...

I agree with you. I *like* "Heaven" but as far as I know, it's never showed up on any of Barry's CD's. As mentioned, I remember seeing (somewhere, years ago) that Barry loathes that song... won't perform it... and won't allow it on any of his albums... so unless the "Oh Julie" EP makes it to CD/digital somehow, we'll never see it. Meanwhile, I ran my copy thru my converter software years ago, so I have it in iTunes although you can tell it's from a vinyl source. :-)

Yeah, "Sit Right Down" was pretty bad. Decent version, just not a great song to begin with IMO.
Stay is okay although I prefer the "Live in Britain" version.
And I think I read that Barry and Streisand were the only artists to actually achieve "hit" status with their versions of Memory... in fact Barry's version charted higher. :-)

Sharon,

I had forgotten all about "Heaven". It's a cute song, and really reminiscent of that era (remember Heaven on the 7th Floor - I loved that one), but I'm right there with you on "sit right down." It seems like a pre-cursor to the greatest hits of albums.

Are there any other songs he has recorded that have made it to his "hate" list?

We probably should start a new thread for those!

Songs I could live a lifetime without hearing again?

Songs always skipped when listening to your Ipad?

(Better than hate)

LOL

I read Angela's note as wondering about which songs BARRY can't stand but maybe I was wrong. As for the ones WE can't stand... yeah, we could get a whole other thread going on those! :-)

Back when I started ripping my CD's into iTunes, I started tracking how much I "liked" each of Barry's albums. "Songs I Like" divided by "Songs on the album" = basic raw percentage. Obviously live albums and greatest hits packages are skewed, but...
Only one album hit 100%... Paradise Cafe. Then things worked down to the nightmare singalong with a score of ZERO. (One up from that was GS-80's, which scored 14.29%.)
I didn't break it down to individual songs, though.
